On January 23, 2019, a pilot was ordered. In September 2018, The CW announced that Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage were developing a new Nancy Drew television series. Alvina August as Detective Karen Hart, (Season 1) dating Nancy's father Carson Drewįor a list of episodes, see: Category:Episodes (2019).Riley Smith as Ryan Hudson, the murder victim's husband and Nancy Drew's biological father.Tunji Kasim as Ned "Nick" Nickerson, Nancy's secret boyfriend.
Whether the ghost is here to help, or hinder Nancy remains to be seen, but one thing’s for sure: Nancy’s going to have to unravel the clues from both the living and the dead to solve the crimes. And, when a supernatural presence begins to haunt Nancy’s investigation, she discovers that the current crime has an astonishing connection to the unsolved murder of a local girl. Nancy’s reawakening brings her into conflict with her widowed father, Carson Drew ( Scott Wolf), who is dating Detective Karen Hart ( Alvina August). The five of them must team up to clear their own names – encountering emotional entanglements and even more mysteries along the way. But when a socialite is murdered, Nancy finds herself a prime suspect in the crime, along with a group of other teens present at the scene: Nancy’s nemesis from high school, George Fan ( Leah Lewis) a rich girl with a mysterious past, Bess Marvin ( Maddison Jaizani) Nancy’s secret boyfriend, Ned “Nick” Nickerson ( Tunji Kasim), and amiable burnout Ace ( Alex Saxon). Devastated by her mother’s passing, Nancy swears off crime-solving while crossing off the days until she can re-apply to college. This could be fine for a season but I can't see it going on longer than that.Official season 1 synopsis: Nancy Drew ( Kennedy McMann) is a brilliant teenaged detective whose sense of self had come from solving mysteries in her hometown of Horseshoe Bay, Maine – until her mother’s untimely death derails Nancy’s college plans. Fans who've only vaguely heard of her before would enjoy it more than someone whose known her all their life(like I have). It feels like they came up with the concept and put Nancy's name on it for attention. It has little to do with the source material besides the small snippets and the actress playing Nancy reenacting a few covers. I'm fine with him having a love interest but since they have Nancy's mom die a year before the show takes place instead of when she was a kid, it's actually really uncomfortable. Carson is just a jerk and lawyers can't represent their own children. So basically the same as any cliche bad boy/girl from every movie/tv show/book/dating sim ever made. George doesn't seem to have much of an personality beyond a bad attitude, tattoos, and a leather jacket. Totally annoyed that they casted a skinny girl to play Bess, it's 2019 I expected her original weight to not be ignored/shamed. George and Bess(no longer cousins) may be the biggest offenders next to Carson Drew. A lot of the characters don't feel like the characters they're supposed to be. I will admit the fact that the change from white to black also meant a change from honor student quarterback to ex-con, was not the smartest move on their part. The actor mostly fits Ned's basic description (tall, dark and handsome lol) and his loyalty to Nancy. Ned is seemingly the only character that has the most in common with his book counterpart, which isn't to say it's accurate. It tied up threads almost too quickly (already).
Right off the bat with the pilot, it doesn't have the true Nancy Drew feel and if the pilot is supposed to set up the rest of the series it doesn't bode well. It tied As a long time fan of Nancy Drew I can safely say that this series wasn't made for long time fans.
